How long will it take for a woman in Nepal to enjoy her Rights of Freedom?

Image
Wow! So the Government of Nepal proposed that women under the age of 40 and are unmarried can't travel out of the country unless we get permission from parents and the ward office. But she doesn't need any permission once she is married? Why? 1. Because most of the girls travel without the permission of the parents and her husband 2. Because there's no security of women employment and other facilities abroad 3. Because of girls trafficking 4. Because of several other reasons? Or 5. Because policies are made by misogynist MEN aged 50 or above who are the maniacs of the patriarchal society that we live in. Does getting approval solve all these problems? Well, at least I don't think so. Why don't these people at policy making level think rationally? Don't they understand that it lies in the mentality of a man to chose the way they behave with a woman. why don't they make their rescue policies better? Why don't they make a policy where the consultancies an...

Disclaimer: This post is not created with the intent to hurt anyone's sentiments. Every word that is penned down is just a perception. I extend my sincere apology to anyone who is hurt through the post. I am not a Newar, but I've lived most of my life in Patan. I've lived in the Newar community and have many friends who are the Newars. Yes, I've been to the Bhojs and Nakthyas. More than anything I respect the sentiments and their thrive to save every little part of their culture. I've seen the Jatras and also understand the sentiments attached to it. I saw several posts that flooded on my social media feed, numerous memes that were made, and read several Newar and other communities blame game, the hatred people spill out on each other's ethnicity, culture and tradition. Hey you! Yes, you! I heard that you were craving to go to Lahana ever since the lockdown begun to satisfy your cravings for the delicious chhoila and chyang! Oh, not to mention your love for the ...

In a nation where the Goddesses are worshiped and the women are severely assaulted or killed or raped or harassed or eve-teased or are effectively acid-attacked, nobody, I believe, not even me, I accept have ever been liberated from provocation, harasment or eve-teasing.  From the very beginning we are educated to hold ourselves, to be careful and aware about individuals around us, to get back home before the sun sets and "dress cautiously". It isn't so much that our folks don't confide enough on us, they do, yet they don't trust the society we live in. Just few days back, I saw a post by my friend when her parents politely asked her to not go for a morning walk because of the newspaper and magazine reads that have been filled out with rape and the acid-attack cases. While a girl’s parent are constantly worried about the safe being of their little girls, are the parents of the young men similarly concerned?  Today, let’s take a look at what the men of a society lik...

Rishi Panchami Puja

Disclaimer: Through this post, I do not intend to hurt any cultural or personal belief. The post simply highlights my perception about the Rishi Panchami Puja. No, I've never performed a Rishi Panchami Puja. Nor did my mother ever made me do it. And specially ever since, I've learnt of what it embarks, it has made my conscience clear of not performing a Rishi Panchami Puja. Rishi panchami puja, this very day is performed   to please the  सप्तऋषि along with the eighty eight thousand सौनकादी ऋषिहरु and the other ज्ञात अज्ञात ऋषि, condemning of any "mistake" or गल्ति, that a woman has done during her menstrual cycle or while she was on her periods- रजस्वाला! Well, रजस्वाला is a physiological or let's say a biological process which marks that a woman is blessed to conceive a life within her or is able to give birth to new life. Previously, the "untouchability" during रजस्वाला did not exist. Woman were given a time off to take rest because of the pain that s...

Moving to the New Normal or Inviting a Disastrous Scenario?

As the government lifted up the 120 days long lockdown since midnight, it has also instructed the schools, colleges and universities to resume. While there is no doubt that education sector has been adversely affected in both ways- financially and academically, we also can't deny that now is not the time. While the public schools have already asked the parents to get their child enrolled, what about the students of the government school. Are we not discriminating the students? While the students of the private students will now be studying in the classes, the government schools that have been used as the quarantine homes are no safe either. People have been constantly travelling in and out and now as the foreign returns can directly go home without having to move to the government's quarantine- oh sorry, the government has advised them to directly go home and quarant themselves at home and only then get the PCR test done within a week, itself explains how wise of a decision i...

My take on Ending 120 days lockdown!

Image
It's very true that people have been starving as the source of their income has been lost and the economy will struggle for so long. The schools and colleges will finally get to charge their students, but I'm happy that the teachers who have been working so hard to keep students like us engaged in studies with such dedication will finally be rewarded. But do we have enough equipment and test kits to keep our doctors safe, to get ourselves tested? I was extremely awed at the sudden decision of the Government to start the lockdown days ago. But ending it in such haphazard manner is going to bring disastrous situation. While soooooo many people across the border will finally come home, without bending their ways, we all are in verse of getting infected as we lack proper quarantine and isolation facilities, and needless to say about the condition of the health care system of the country. People have already started walking along without wearing any masks and taking any other p...
